Show Gratitude

If you’re an employer, remember this. You have the right to demand work from your employees. After all, you are paying them wages in exchange for work. But, nothing in the contract stipulates that the work will be great or even good. Mediocrity is actually the norm: mediocre is literally the word for moderate or average quality. If anyone demonstrates extraordinary dedication, commitment, or excellence, consider that a boon. Thank your employees. Show them your appreciation and be grateful.

If you’re an employee, remember this. You have the right to demand wages from your employer. After all, you are exchanging your work for wages. But, nothing in the contract stipulates that you will be compensated fairly for your efforts, treated equally with dignity, and be given meaningful and impactful work. If you are given the opportunity to rise, treated well, taken care of such that you can go to and leave work everyday thinking “I love this place,” consider that a boon. Thank your employer. Show him or her your appreciation and be grateful. Don’t take things for granted.

Excellent work is an exception, and meaningful work is a privilege. So, take the time to show gratitude. In the end, it is simply and plainly the right thing to do.
